Chase ends in police shooting in Rotary Park

PITTSFIELD – A Pittsfield police officer shot at a suspect Wednesday morning, following a traffic stop turned car chase that ended at Rotary Park on Springside Ave.
At 9:09 a.m., Officer David Hallas pulled over a green Mercedes Benz SUV for a traffic violation on Bartlett Avenue, Pittsfield Police Chief Michael Wynn said. The driver struck Hallas with the car’s door then fled and led officers on a car chase.
The suspect, Mark A. Marauszwski, 55, of Pittsfield, allegedly drove at Officer Streit, who was out of his vehicle in Rotary Park, as he attempted to get back onto Springside Avenue. According to police, Streit fired three rounds, one of which hit Marauszwski, who then crashed into a post at the entrance of the playground.
Marauszwski was taken to Berkshire Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition. He was arrested on charges of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and failure to stop for a police officer.
