Taconic proves itself with rivalry win in hostile territory at PHS

PITTSFIELD — Deonte Sandifer has seen enough Pittsfield-Taconic rivalry games to know what happens when you don’t close strong. The Braves had fallen victim to PHS in the Home Under the Dome too many times in recent memory.

So, when the fourth quarter rolled around and the pesky Generals wouldn’t let Taconic pull away, the four-year varsity senior took over.

“Coach told me I had to get my mindset right and take over, being a team captain and a leader,” said Sandifer. “I just came out attacking the rim, trying to help my teammates out and put some points on the board.”

Sandifer poured in 11 of his game-high 20 points in the final frame, getting wherever he wanted off the dribble in Taconic’s 65-47 rivalry win.
