NORTHFIELD – For the second consecutive year, a team from Berkshire County emerged as winners of the Division III Western Mass Wrestling tournament.
While Taconic grabbed the honor last winter, this time it was Monument Mountain’s turn, while the Braves placed fifth. Individually, nine County wrestlers fought their way into the finals of their respective weight classes. While only two emerged atop the podium, it was an overall strong statement for the Berkshires to make.
Monument’s Nate Cormier grabbed the title at 145 lbs. but the story of the day, and really year as a whole beyond the Spartans title, was Mt. Greylock senior Devin Pelletier.
Pelletier recently set a state record for wins with 231, and continued distancing himself in the history books en route to a Western Mass title at 170 lbs.
