CHESHIRE – Behind an incredible performance by senior Kailynne Frederick, the Hoosac Valley Girls Basketball team toppled Pittsfield High to win the Berkshire North title outright.
Frederick poured in a game-high 23 points as the Hurricanes battled back from a double-digit deficit at home Thursday night to overcome the Generals 59-57.
Hoosac led early and actually went into the half with a seven-point advantage, 33-26. However, a 21-5 third quarter, powered by the outside shooting of Bella Aitken (18 points, four threes), blasted Pittsfield High in front and put the visitors in commanding position.
The Hurricanes defense got them back into it in the fourth quarter. Pittsfield struggled taking care of the ball all night and Hoosac’s active defense forced turnover after turnover down the stretch. Alie Mendel scored five straight off turnovers and Fallon Field and she sealed it at the line.
